Bee Good

As you all know I recently attended my first ever blogger event and it was brilliant (have a read here) and we got given a goodie bag as well as a lush goodie bag from Aimee. I'm still yet to do a blog post on the goodie bag and the products, but I thought I would kick start my goodie bag reviews with the Bee Good Lip Balm.

Okay, so I firstly would like to say that I haven't paid for this it was given to me in my goodie bag as already stated above, When I first put it on it felt like I was putting on a body scrub on my lips but after like 5 seconds the body scrub feeling went as the little tiny pieces dissolved (which I thought was pretty cool and I liked it at first), I found it not too greasy which for me was perfect but after about 5 mins I felt that it had gone and there was no lip balm on my lips anymore, it was like I had applied nothing on them, it says on the back of the product "This deeply nourishing balm softens (which it didn't) protects and moisturises dry or chapped lips." my lips were feeling a little dry and I remembered I had this in my handbag and thought I would try it. It didn't soften them up, it made them feel cakey which I hate! the other two things I also didn't enjoy about this product were 1) The texture of the product and 2) that it was gone within a second. You can see in the photo from the little booklet the picture that has been printed shows you the exact size you receive, the texture is cakey, and a little bit thick. I personally wouldn't buy this at £4.75 I think it is a little bit steep for a lip balm that's 10ml, I much prefer Burts Bees as it does exactly what it says on the label.

Have you tried their products out?

Instax Mini 8

I thought I would do a lifestyle post today, as I haven't (I think) and I know a lot of people who are after getting one of these bad boys for x-mas. I got one for my birthday in march, and have non-stop used it I'm surprised it's still working the amount of times I have taken pics.

I grew up with my mum always using her instant camera, and always asked her "can I use it mum?" I have always loved taking photographs from a very young age it seems, so when I saw the Instax Mini 8 Cameras I got super excited (I was like a kid in a sweet shop) I went to tesco and bought the white one. I did want the blue one but that one is the most popular and was sadly sold out, but I secretly prefer the white (classic colour).
It cost me £70 but include 40 shots (which as you can imagine, as a keen photographer these went down pretty quickly).

If you haven't got a clue want an Instax Mini is, it's basically a polaroid-style camera that produces as you've guessed it instant pictures that develop right in front of your very eyes, it only takes a few minutes for them to develop and they are totally worth it! ?There are 10 shots in each film, after you have used the film you have to buy refills for them, they can be a little bit costly at £10 per film but you get different prints on each film like the background, I love using the pandora film I think its so pretty and the dalmatian one! you can however usually get on pack with 20 'shots' in and it's around £13-£14 - not cheap I know but they are completely worth it. you can pop them in mini photo frames, use them as bookmarks pretty much anything but do keep them out of direct sunlight this includes when the photo is developing.

The camera is so easy to use; you just pop in the batteries (if you buy the bundle from tesco they come with them) and then place the film cartridge inside, that's it, after you have closed the back don't clip it back open as once you have you might waist any film that is left in there, there is a mini countdown thing that shows you how many shots you have got left. I don't really touch the settings on it, unless I'm outside and using it! I just click out the lens to turn it on, point and shoot and there you go, it's done. The quality is very good for everyday snaps - the Instax mini is there to take snapshots of the memories that you create rather than create something perfect, you can end up with some cool results but that's what makes it fun you never quite know what you're going to get or end up with. The camera has a built in flash and the pictures come out quite sharp and clear.

I need to get some more film as it has been a good few months since I last used it. I personally think it's perfect for anything and everything like when you have a house party, christmas, birthdays, weddings ect. The list is endless! I love shoving it in my bag in the summer and take it pretty much everywhere with me! I love it that much. I have a whole box full of the photos and I just love looking at the ones that my mum took when I was a kid and the ones I have taken it just makes me so happy and each one is something that holds a memory that I will cherish forever. The Instax mini is quite small and the films are quite small, but if you want the photos a little bit bigger I would strongly recommend you buy this Instax, you use the wide film, so you can take bigger photos! they are pretty cool if you want a bigger result and fantastic for parties my friend has one of them.

I love this so much, and have used it non-stop like I said earlier, since march it's well worth the money. It's light enough to take around with you on a daily basis if you wanted to! They are not too pricey that they put you off not wanting to buy one, once upon a time physical photos where to be unheard of, and that's what I love about the Instax mini it brings that memory to life and you can look at it again and again.

I highly recommend buying an Instax camera for christmas, or even hint that you would absolutely love one!
Trust me you definitely won't regret buy it!

What do you think of the Instax Mini Cameras?

Biggest Lush Haul Ever

As you are all probably aware I recently went to a blogger event (have a read here) and we all went to lush for a 'tour' I absolutely loved and I did come home with a goodie bag kindly given to us from them as well as buying a few things myself!

Creamy Candy Bath Melt - I absolutely love this, I once was given this as a birthday present, It came with lush popcorn (note- not edible even though I did offer it to my grandparents) and ever since using it I have wanted to try and find the exact one so when I was given this in my lush goodie bag I was super happy. It smells very sweet, it smells exactly like a wham bar. It's like you've got an entire sweetie shop in your bathroom it smells that good, it turns your bath water a beautiful, gorgeous baby pink colour

Price £2.75

Sunblock bar - I can't wait to try this, I think I'm going to save this until next year as it's winter and there isn't an ounce of sun in sight, It's a little oily and personally I think it smells like a mix between tea tree oil and lavender, I like this bar because you can break chunks off at a time and easily pop it into a metal tin and carry it around with you in your hand bag when the sun makes a reappearance £8.95.

Sugar Scrub Body Scrub - I adore this its very big and I really can't wait to use this, I'm a massive fan of body scrubs this one smells of lavender which I love and I've got a feeling that I'm going to get quite a few uses out of this £2.95

British Nanny -  I love this product and as a mini sample pot I was really looking forward to using it, It's slightly oily but is fantastic if you have dry skin (which I do) It's perfect as it is very easy to massaged into your skin, you only need a little bit and I use this sparingly as a little goes a long way. I'm useless at describing smells & scents but this stuff honestly works! I personally think it's a little on the pricey side but if something works get it, and stick to it....well that's at what I tell myself.

From Dusk 'Til Dawn - This is personally one of my favourites! I'm a HUGE fan of lush's massage bar rage and this little one is one of them, it isn't greasy and makes your skin feel super super soft! It smells of a mix between Honey,Orange & lemon. If you've never tried a lush massage bar before then you are seriously missing out bigstyle.

Luxury Lush Pud - This smells of lavender, it's a little on the strong side for my liking but it's amazing I can't wait to use this as the lady in Lush said to me it has lots of different colours in and will turn your water pink/purple. I'm super looking forward to this as I have been eyeing this one up for a while now.

and last but not least

I treated myself to a Snow Fairy Box I used to love snow fairy but now I have to use it ever so often as it's quite a sickly sweet bubble gum scent, however if you like sickly bubble scents then this would be the perfect gift for you. It comes with pink fun which you can make models/shapes out off, you can even use the Fun as bubble bath!

what are your favourite lush products?

Blogger Meet Up

So yesterday I went to my first ever blogger meet up!
and I loved every second of it, I met some lovely bloggers.
We first went to lush and they gave us a 'tour' as I called it, featuring some of there christmas products! and guess what *pauses for drum roll* I even have a special preview of some NEW PRODUCTS that will be coming out NEXT WEEK!!!!! so a sneak peek for you all! I will be doing a massive lush haul post to show you all the things I brought and were given!

(this is called baked alaska and It smells so amazing it smelt like lemonade)

(this smelt completely like christmas (cinnamon and apple along with other spices) and when I next go back there I will 100% be buying another one!)

These are the new shampoo bars that are coming out next week! starting from the top left you have:
Jason and Argan Oil, I really loved this one and it smells of the rose jam which is fab I loved the rose jam as much as the snow fairy, however snowfairy did have the edge.

moving on to brazilliant I personally wasn't to keen on the smell I felt it to be a little to strong
Lullaby, I loved and will buy when I'm next in lush
Copperhead, now this one I didn't really like as I felt it smelt quite strong of coffee and I personally wouldn't buy it.
I loved the Montalband and Honey I washed my hair,
the montalband one smelt of lemons and was very strong which I loved!
and the Honey I washed My hair was a mix between honey and coconut, it was nice but wasn't as powerful as the others!

I think for what you get with these they are worth the
£5.75 as the bars (which can I just say/type I love the fact that lush have created them to look like mini macaroons) as you can break little pieces of at time.

Everything from lush smells amazing some of them I wasn't to sure about but I'm not kidding you when I say I could literally live in there!
We then after being in my favourite shop for over an hour (it was heaven to me) we then went for some lovely afternoon tea (I know how yum does the food look) at Rock, Paper, Scissors (love the name).
There was Ham sandwiches, egg mayo sandwiches, cheese and tomato and my favourite part the beautiful cakes!

This is a very quick blog post as I have so much to do and blog about! (#LifeOfABlogger) but before I go I would just like to say a massive THANK YOU!!!!! to aimee who organized the brilliant event! I had such an amazing time and I hope we can do another blogger event again soon!

Baking With Jess

Hello everyone, this is my first ever baking post!
I absolutely love baking and if I could I would bake everyday! hahaha

I wanted to bake some:

Mocha & Brandy Cream White Chocolate Cupcakes (stuffed with coffee cream)
I don't like coffee that much, but have wanted to put coffee in cupcakes for ages so I thought now was the perfect time and I thought that I would share with you my baking skills this recipe isn't my own it was created by a lovely girl called Rachel! I have added the brandy cream as this is to give it a christmassy kick please don't add the brandy cream if you don't like it, just ignore it where it says brandy cream or the word brandy.

(Please Note the recipe is not mine, it was created by a lovely girl called Rachel, I have only added brandy cream to give it a festive kick! rachel if you are reading this seriously join/ sign up for the Great British Bake Off!)

(btw pre warning these do have a very strong coffee taste but are amazing!!!)

For The Mocha Cupcakes

175g of self raising flour
200g of caster sugar
200g of unsalted butter
3 tbsp of fine coffee granules/espresso powder (+ 1 tsp)
2 medium eggs
2 tbsp of cocoa
1 tbsp of water

For The Coffee Cream Filling

150g of cream cheese (full fat)
3 tbsp icing sugar (sifted)
1 tbsp coffee granules/espresso powder
1 tbsp of water

For The Brandy Cream & White Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting

250g of icing sugar (sifted)
115g of cream cheese
100g of white chocolate
50g of unsalted butter (note- has to be at room temperature)
150g of Brandy Cream
and cocoa to decorate at the end!

Now lets get down to the baking!

Line a 12 hole cupcake tray with cupcake liners
Preheat oven to 175°C

1. Firstly you want to make a very strong coffee (almost paste like) so Boil the kettle, then in a mug make your very strong coffee (almost paste-like) with the 3 tbsp of your fine coffee granules and 1 tbsp of water of the boiling water and then move it to one side.

2. In a medium bowl sift your flour, 1tsp of coffee and cocoa together, then put that to one side.

3. In a large bowl cream together the butter and sugar by hand (tip if you do it by hand use a wooden spoon not a metal one) or with an electric whisk, then whisk in the eggs (add them one at a time), then add the cooled coffee.

4. Pour in half the flour mixture to your butter/sugar mixture bowl and fold together slowly, when JUST combined, add the remaining half and repeat. the mix should look something like this:

5. Then fill your cupcake holders with your batter until they are 3/4 full (they will/should double in size when baking) and pop on the middle shelf of your preheated oven for about 18-20 minutes. You will know when you're gorgeous cupcakes are done when you can insert a skewer/knife in the middle and it comes out clean or they are slightly browned around the edges. Take them out of the oven and then leave them to cool in the tray and then turn out onto a wire rack to cool further.

Now it's time to move onto your coffee cream filling!

1. Using the already boiled water (please re-boil it if it has gone look warm), make your second tiny coffee with the coffee granules and water. Set aside (this should be to the next step when completely cold)

2. Pop your cream cheese in a medium bowl and whisk on high speed for a few minutes, then turn the whisk down to medium speed and beat in the cold coffee (note- if your not a real coffee lover add a little bit and then taste), followed (little by little) with the icing sugar. Mix until everything is evenly combined and pop into the fridge.

Now for The White Chocolate And Brandy-Cream, Cream Cheese Frosting
(god imagine try saying that when you are drunk)

1. Melt your white chocolate you can do this in a microwave (takes about 2-3mins, do keep checking it and stirring it as it could burn, if you chose to do that add the brandy cream in after all the chocolate has melted) or my preferred method is a in a bowl placed over a saucepan of boiling water put the brandy cream and chocolate in the bowl. This takes a little longer but it's easier to keep an eye on it so you can see if is burning or not. once all the contents are melted, move it to one side and leave it too cool.

2. In a large bowl beat together the cream cheese and butter (do not use and electric whisk use a wooden spoon). Add the cooled chocolate and brandy cream mix (and please make sure it is properly cooled otherwise this will curdle -yuk!!) and mix. finally add the icing sugar, little by little, and mix until everything is evenly combined and smooth. (top tip- if you wanted to you could just do a butter cream with the white chocolate just swap the cream cheese for sugar- *note* you always want double the icing sugar to the amount of butter, that is just basically the rule for any buttercream mix).

Side Note- If you like your frosting a little thicker/thickened, add more icing sugar, if you want to loosen it up a bit add a tsp or 2 of milk.

3. Then pop that in the fridge, when you are happy with it.

To Assemble The Cupcakes

1. Once the cupcakes are completely cool and only when they are completely, you sneaky little person who wants to ice them straight away I can see you! ;). make a small hole in the middle of each one. If you have and apple corer then that's a handy tool to use or you can just use a sharp knife like I did. You want the hole to be a little bit bigger then a pound coin in width and about half way down the cupcake depth-wise. with the piece you have cut out you can eat it! (I knew you would) continue to do this with all the other cupcakes.

2. Fill the hole with your coffee cream filling until they are level with the top of the cake.

3. Pop your desired amount of the brandy cream and white choco frosting on top of the cupcakes either with a spoon or if you are fancy, pipe it on. Then Dust with a little cocoa for decoration and add a little christmas themed sweet to finish it off just to make you feel more christmassy already.

after all that hard work you are DONE! so go and enjoy the festivities that await you and share your cupcakes with your friends and family! after all that you'll be in need of a bit of a caffeine boost to get all that washing up done! ;) hahaha.

quick note - I'm not saying that I'm anywhere near as good at baking as miss merry berry, but if I'm truthful these are flippin' good, even if I do say so myself

I had so much fun making these and typing this blog post for you guys! let me know if you would like some more of my baking skills!

my nan said they taste like mini tiramisu

Thank you rachel once again for your very talented bakes and please can everyone check rachels website out here and subscribe to her mailing list please!
